Oldtimer rallySince 2006, JUKA Motorsport has participated in oldtimer racing and rally event throughout Europe with their own renovated cars. The JUKA Motorsport crew of Josef Juračka/Hana Juračková participate in oldtimer rallies with their Škoda 1000MB or in the Škoda Felicia cabriolet. Their Tatra 57 most often participates in parade venues and exhibition cruises. The German champions Matthias Kahle/Petr Göbel love driving the orange sports coupe Škoda 110R. Oldtimer races and vintage car venues are not only an opportunity to show qualities of the car but it is also an opportunity to meet interesting people, learn a particular region and exchange experience. What Are Oldtimer RalliesCar in oldtimer races have a drive and a co-driver. In order for a car and crew to qualify for a oldtimer rally the car needs to be old enough, have original design, brand and history of the car, previous successful participation in oldtimer rallies etc. Before the race is started, cars are subject to administrative and technical inspection. The administrative inspection includes providing all information about the race to the crew. The technical inspection includes a check of the technical conditions and documentation of the car etc. Participants can choose whether to take a leisure ride without completing any special tasks on the way, or whether to race in the sport class while fulfilling the tasks specified in the itinerary. Before the start, the crew also decides whether to race in "sanduhr" class (only mechanical stop-watch) or whether to race in "electric" class (electronic devices are used when completing tasks). The decision cannot be changed after the race is started. Cars are usually classified according to the age of the car. JUKA Motorsport cars participant in the sport class and use electronic devices. Cars are equipped with special devices for oldtimer rallies. The co-driver is expected to navigate the driver according to the itinerary supplied by the organizer and to reach all timing checkpoints in time. The itinerary includes instructions concerning the driving direction, checkpoints and tests (measured sections). Tests are various and specified by the organizer, in principle they are of 4 types. The first type includes questions and tasks. During the race, participants reach a point specified in the itinerary and they are allowed to continue only after a task is completed. This type of tests is most often used in leisure ride races. The second type includes so called orientation tests: the traditional itinerary contains map supplements and various symbols to determine in what direction to drive. What is most difficult with these tasks is to find a key to the reading of the maps and symbols in order not to lose much valuable time before the next timing checkpoint is reached. The third and the fourth types are average tests and "sollzeit" tests. These two types are preferred by both above mentioned sport-class crews. In average tests, the crew is expected to drive a certain route at a certain average speed. There are secret measuring point on the route to check whether the crew is on the right place in the right time. Measurement is done in milliseconds. Each millisecond beyond or under the precise specified time means penalty points. The most common measuring devices include light beam (placed at a certain height above the ground, timing is triggered by interrupting the beam with a part of the car), or a measuring cable placed on the ground (the car tires touch the cable). In sollzeit tests, the crew is granted a certain time and a route section at the end of which the car has to pass the measuring device in time 0°0´0“. Each millisecond beyond or under the precise specified time again means penalty points. These types of tests require perfect co-ordination of the driver and co-driver and a good grasp of the car. As the race occurs under normal traffic on less busy roads it requires maximum concentration during the whole race. At the end of the race (usually after 2 or 3 laps (days)) penalty points are summed. The winner is the crew with the least number of penalty points. Also, best crews for individual tests are declared. |
